My Favorite iPod Touch and iPhone Apps
I have an iPod Touch which I absolutely love. I thought I would share with you my favorite apps I have found for it. I absolutely have not looked at all the available apps yet. Is that even possible?
If you are using an iPod Touch, some of these apps require internet access to work. Bummer. They always work with an iPhone.
First of all, upgrade to the 3.1 update. It costs $4.95 and it’s worth it.
The Weather Channel (free, requires internet): Gives you current conditions, and 12-h, 36-h, and 10-day forecasts. It also gives you a current radar with the option to animate. There are several more features but these are what I use the most.
Facebook (free, requires internet): Not much more to be said. It’s Facebook.
eReader (The app is free. Books costs.): I buy my books online and read them on my iPod. It’s lightweight, compact, always with me, easy on the eyes, I can read in bed at night without disturbing David, and I love it, love it, love it.
Sudoku (.99): Nice interface, fun game.
MahJongg Artifacts 2 (.99): I like MahJong. All you do is match tiles. Sometimes I prefer the challenge of strategy and sometimes I just want mindless. This app offers both options. It has gorgeous background screens and precise controls. Well worth a dollar.
AppBox Pro (.99): The interface is bit awkward to use at first but it includes some really nice features: Battery Life, Date Calculator (days between, adding days, moon cycle), # of days until, flashlight, loan calculator, price comparison (best value between two items), ruler, sale price, level, unit calculator (cooking, gas, measurement, weight, etc.) and a couple of games.
Pandora (free, requires internet): Tell this app the musical artist you prefer or the type of music you like best and it will start playing music by the artist or by the music that fits the genre you selected. You can tell it if you liked or didn’t like the selection so the application “learns” your preferences. Pretty dog-gone cool.
What’s On? (free, requires internet): A TV and movie guide. Also gives information about different shows such as tonight’s plot, who stars, who guest stars, etc. It’s a digital TV Guide.
Sleepmaker: There are lite versions (free) and paid versions. I have three free ones (Streams, Waves, and Wildlife) and two paid versions (Storms Pro and Rain Pro). All of the lite versions can be upgraded to the pro versions for $1.99. I tried out all five free versions and upgraded once I decided which ones I preferred. I sleep like a baby with these going. I used to wake up many nights and could not go back to sleep. Since I have gotten these I’ve not had any trouble at all. Misty and Brett got the Rain Pro and absolutely love it.
FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER
I bought a few games for her to play when we are together in the car or waiting someplace. They’ve come in handy MANY times. I don’t know if you’d ever need any entertainment for kids, but I enjoy playing most of them, too.
Sally’s Spa (2.99): Worth it! She loves playing it and so do I. I play it while waiting in line anyplace, while waiting for my husband David, at night while David watches Fox News, at the restaurant waiting for David to finish talking to the people next to us. Pretty much I play it when I’m with David. (smile…) It’s an interactive game that takes place in a spa. Clients need facials, massages, hot tubs, saunas, manis and pedis, etc and it’s your job to move them along. Some clients are big tippers, some are not. Some clients are patient, some are not. Pretty fun little game.
Alli’s Jigsaw (.99): A jigsaw puzzle. It comes with prepackaged puzzles or use your own photos. K likes it quite a bit.
Ragdoll Blaster (1.99): It’s a physics game. You shoot ragdolls (No ragdolls are harmed during the playing of this game.) from a cannon (Seriously. They aren’t hurt.) at a target. There are all kinds of obstacles between the cannon and the target. Your job is to figure out the force and trajectory needed to get past the obstacles and hit the target with a ragdoll in the fewest possible number of shots. There are springs, pistons, wheels, buttons, motors, and gears to contend with. Sounds like it’s a bit boring but it really is a fun game to play. It’s K’s favorite.
Jurassica Stoneloops (On sale right now for .99. That’s 75% off.): ADDICTIVE. For me. Not for K. She doesn’t play it, but I do. Beautiful screens, easy to play, rewards for achieving certain levels, and two different game modes. It’s all about smashing the marbles.
That’s pretty much it. I just downloaded a gas mileage tracker but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet. If I like it I will let you know.
Feel free to add your favorites!
